Thirunyanasambanthan

Sila Manidargal - A blog to recognize, identify some of the great legends who remarkably changed the society.

Today in Sila Manidargal, we will see about "Mr. V. Thirunyanasambanthan" who is a Malaysian Tamil Politician and one of the Founding Fathers of Malaysia along with Tunku Abdul Rahman and Tan Cheng Lock.

In 1957, Malaysia attained its Independence from British Empire. Like Mr.Gandhi in India, Sambanthan was a signatory of the Agreement for Malaysia.

Before Malaysian Independence, he fought for the workers' rights which made him more popular among Malaysian Estates. After Independence, he was elected as a Labour and Health Minister.

After crowing, Sambanthan started more recruitment campaigns among plantation workers. He promoted Education, Health Plans and Social Security to all Malaysian resident Indian origin people.

British people started to sell the Estates they had after Independence and he made all Plantation working people as partners to buy those estates ($100 per head). He brought 18 estates under Workers Co-operative Society.

He passed away in 1979 and his wife took over the Co-operative Society operations. This society is still running successfully in Malaysia.

The Overcoat story
Tunku Abdul Rahman (President) and Sambanthan are close friends. In 1956, President and Sambanthan travelled to UK for Signing Independence agreement. There Mr.Sambanthan was criticized for wearing a dhoti in the meeting.

Mr.Tunku wanted Sambanthan to be a Hero during the upcoming meeting. So he purchased a coat suit for Sambanthan and forced him to wear. Just because his close friend wanted him to try a suit, he tried, which later turned into his habit. After this, Sambanthan purchased several coats and he wore them during meetings.

This incident is very well captured in one of the Tamil Movie (Kabali) where Mr.Rajini wears the coat and speaks a very famous dialog:

"Naan munnuku varathu than un prechnai na, naan munnukku varuven da. Coat Suit Poduven da"

This turned out to be a tribute to the legend.

Comment us the legend you know. Let's all together, celebrate our Heroes.

LOTUS is always one of the special Flower. LOTUS is considered as flower of Purity. It represents the purity of Heart and Mind, Long Life, Health and good Fortune. This could be a reason for the structure of the temple. This is the birthplace of Sri Swami Satchidananda, who preached that “ Truth Is One; Paths Are Many ”. As he realized, there is no deity in this temple instead there are 12 light rays representing 12 major religions across the world.
